Yamatera
This temple was built in 860 AD by Jikaku Daishi Ennin, an eminent monk of the Tendai Buddhist Sect. It's well known because of the famous poem about it written by the renowned Japanese poet, Matsuo Bashō, upon his visit to the temple: "In the peace of the forest of the mountain, the sound of cicadas permeates into the rocks". Within the temple, Japan's oldest form of architecture,"Konpon Chudoh”; the "Tomb of Cicadas," carved with Matsuo's famous poem; and "The Eternal Buddhist Light," which has kept burning for over 1100 years, are all wonderful things to see. However, The most highly recommended sight is the "Five Big Halls," built upon the side of broken ridges. Here, visitors can enjoy a cool breeze while overlooking a grand view of the mountains. Why not enjoy all of the above when you come stay with us at Super Hotel Yamagata?
