Towada Lake

It crosses Aomori and Akima and lies between mountains with an elevation of 400 meters. The most charming feature of the lake is the double caldera formed, on which it seems the world has a great blue mirror. The lake water is so clear that you can see 15 meters deep. It also has a uniquely shaped peninsula and thick forests by the lakeside, all of this together creates an atmosphere of mystery. There are various kinds of sightseeing facilities, the tourists center has a lot of information and will provide information on the different sights and the history of Towada Lake. Strolling down the avenues or riding one of the pleasure-boats to tour the lake will bring joy and peace to all who have a chance to visit.

Oirase Keiryu

Oirase Keiryu is the only river flowing out from Towada Lake. It is 14 kms long, flowing from Nenokuchi to lower Yakiyama, with many varying sceneries, and is called the first Keiryu of Tohoku. Along it, there are many scenic spots, such as Asura Keiryu, Kumoi waterfall, and the Cho-shi large falls. Hiking on the renewed path you can hear birds chirping and simply enjoy the forests. If looking for more information on the many areas, there is an information building, also named Oirase Keiryu, located in Lower Yakiyama. There is all kinds of information available, from knowledge of the rich natural resources on Oirase, the different forms of Keiryu and ecology.
