Kotodai-Koen Park

Kotodai-Koen Park

Displaying the beauty of Sendai's four seasons and representative of the city's status as “City of Green”, the Kotodai-Koen Park is located in the center of Sendai. It covers a broad area of about 25 thousand hectares and is composed of three zones. It has varied facilities, such as a round flower bed, a residents square, and an outdoor music hall. There are many scenic spots worthy of visiting, too. The most highly recommended is the life-size statue of the great yokozuna, “Tanikaze,” (1.89m in height and 169kg in weight)"Tanikaze was born in Sendai and became a peerless sumo wrestler during his years wrestling. The statue represents Tanikaze's tall and strong physique. It stands in the park as if Tanikaze were still protecting his hometown. This spot is your best choice if you wish to spend a leisurely time in a green environment! If you are planning to head towards the adjacent Miyagi Prefectural government building, visitors can enjoy an nice view of the city from the 18th floor.

Sendai-castle

Sendai-castle

This castle was built by the "one-eyed hero,” Date Masamune, on a natural fortress-Mt. Aoba. It's well known as an inaccessible castle. At the beginning of the Meiji period, when kingdoms were abolished and replaced by prefectures, the central part of the castle was disassembled and supporting parts were unfortunately burned due to an accidental fire. At present, only a stone wall engraved by a long history and the main structure repaired after the war stand for people to view. For the tourists who wish to learn more details about the city of Sendai, we recommend that you take a trip to the "Aoba City Archives Museum”. In a 300-inch big screen theater, you can see the look of the castle just as it were before through the use of sophisticated CG technology. Additionally, the horse-riding statue of Date Masamune and the sakura tress in Aoba City Park are worthwhile seeing as well.
