The rope used in the festival is 365 meters long and 35 centimeters in diameter. It weighs an amazing 5 tons. Over 3,000 young men are divided into a red team and a white team at each end of the rope. As the sound of taiko drum announces the start of the contest, two teams begin to pull against each other violently. During the contest, you will hear, “Come on!” interwoven with loud cheering. The passionate cheering is so loud that it shakes people’s ears; and this is also why the contest is called as “the tug-of-war of quarrel.""
