Ishiwarizakura (The Split Rock Cherry Blossom Tree)
The branches and leaves of this type of cherry blossom tree grow sturdily from in-between a giant split rock. The giant granite rock has a circumference of 21m and stands 1.7m tall. It's said that the tree is already 300-400 years old and it has been nationally designated as a natural memorial. Each year in mid-April this cherry blossom tree blooms beautifully. It is truly something to see.
Varied summer festivals in the Tohoku region of Japan all start from the grand opening of the Morioka Sansa Odori. There are around 140 groups, 18 thousand dancers, 2 thousand flute players and 10 thousand drummers who participate in this summer dance pageant. This legendary dance's climax involves strong beats and energetic group dancing.
