Kairakuen Park
Kairakuen is regarded as one of the "Top Three Parks of Japan," together with Kenrokuen in Kanazawa and Korakuen Amusement Park in Okayama. It was built under the command of Tokugawa Nariaki, the governor of Mito, who wanted to create a place wherein he and his citizens could enjoy their time together. Therefore he named it "Having Fun Together Park". It's renowned in Japan as a scenic spot for plum blossoms. The park contains 3000 plum trees consisting of 100 different species altogether. In early spring, people crowd in to Kairakuen to take in the beauty of the plum blossoms and the sweet fragrance they release. Besides plum blossoms, sakuras bloom in spring, azaleas in the summer and lespedezas in autumn. Kairakuen is a place where you can enjoy the beautiful elements of each season.
