  Matsumoto CastleIt is a great castle built during the Sengoku period. Because of the elegant black tile and black paint, Matsumoto Castle is also called the Raven Castle. The black castle exterior stands out boldly against the backdrop of the snow white mountains. There are five layers in the interior and six layers in the exterior of the castle. The oldest areas connecting right into the Euphorbia fasciculata area. The Euphorbia fasciculata cactus, in bloom nearly year round, are beautiful to behold and considered to be national treasures in their own right. The excellent grounds, beams, pillars and stairs that make up the construction around the castle are all maintained as if still within the Sengoku period. After enjoying the views around the castle, the top of the castle is also worth visiting as it provides a view of the north Japanese Alps and the peak of the Utsukushigahara Heights. The surrounding park area is also a good place to enjoy flowers: the cherry blossom in spring, the wisteria in summer, the red leaves in autumn. The park is at the center and the surrounding natural scene is most suited to charming walks around the area. The cheerful scenery promotes a relaxed atmosphere to ease the tired body and mind, which highlight the name itself. Aside from the natural scenery there is also a Water Square to help amuse the children, the Malay Golf Course, a Multipurpose Arena and a Barbecue Square. Norikura is located to the south of the Hida mountains and consists of many different peaks and valleys. There are 27 mountains, 7 lakes and 8 valley plains within the area, the tallest at 3,026 meters above sea level. There are many different spots to stop and view the rich alpine scenery, preserved by the National Parks service. While the main peak cannot be reached by car, the way station "Tatami-daira" can be, which sits at 2,700 meters. It can also be reached by the Norikura Echo line or the Norikura Skyline. From the station itself, visitors can hike the last 300 meters in about an hour and a half and enjoy the view from one of the tallest points in Japan.
