Matsumoto Castle
It is a great castle built during the Sengoku period. Because of the elegant black tile and black paint, Matsumoto Castle is also called the Raven Castle. The black castle exterior stands out boldly against the backdrop of the snow white mountains. There are five layers in the interior and six layers in the exterior of the castle. The oldest areas connecting right into the Euphorbia fasciculata area. The Euphorbia fasciculata cactus, in bloom nearly year round, are beautiful to behold and considered to be national treasures in their own right. The excellent grounds, beams, pillars and stairs that make up the construction around the castle are all maintained as if still within the Sengoku period. After enjoying the views around the castle, the top of the castle is also worth visiting as it provides a view of the north Japanese Alps and the peak of the Utsukushigahara Heights. The surrounding park area is also a good place to enjoy flowers: the cherry blossom in spring, the wisteria in summer, the red leaves in autumn. The natural picturesque scenery only adding additional beauty to the castle.
