Fuji River
Along with the Mogami and Kuma rivers, the Fuji River is regarded as one of the three most rapid flowing rivers of Japan. It flows near numerous mountains, including Mt. Fuji, the Southern Japanese Alps, Mt. Chichibu, Yatsugatake, and other 3000-meter-high mountains, finally emptying into Suruga Bay. The mouth of the river is about 2 kilometers-wide, which makes it the widest river in Japan. Photographers love the riverbed and often take pictures of Shinkansen and Mt. Fuji from it. In spring and autumn, work starts for those in the shrimping business. The sakura shrimp that swim across the riverbed are like a dazzling red carpet. They are later caught and dried for sale.
