Izumooyashiro

The Izumo Taisha Shrine is dedicated to Okuninushi no Mikoto, the god of marriage and attracts a lot of worshippers. Inside the extensive premises there are numerous Honden, which are listed as national treasures, Haiden, Soga-no-Yashiro, the library, the treasure house, Shōkokan, and many other great buildings. Among them all, Kaguraden is the most attractive because of the rare and giant Shimenawa. It is the largest in Japan with a length of 13 meters and a width of 8 meters, and weighs 5 tons. It is said that if you stand under the Shimenawa and throw a coin up and it doesn’t drop to the floor, you will have your dreams come true. Why not have a visit and add a happy memory to your trip?

Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine

Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine is the largest silver mine in Japan. It was started in 1526 and closed in 1923. During the 400 years, silver was mined non-stop. The local people adopted a special method called cupellation to extract silver with a high purity. There are also many trenches, called “Kampo”, left. The Ryugenji Kampo is the only one open to the public and maintains the feel as if it was 400 years in the past. The plied walls carved by chisels tell the stories of the miners who mined the silver by hand. The data library and shops provide much information on the history of the site. Please enjoy your time here and glimpse into the past.
