Sunshine 60 Mansion

Speaking of the landmark of Ikebukuro, it is always the Sunshine 60 Mansion. With a height of about 240 meters, it looks like that it is outfacing the other buildings. Business street of East entrance of Ikebukuro Station

Akabane, considered the secondary-downtown of Tokyo, is as famous as Shinjuku or Shibuya. Besides the fierce competition between the department stores of Seibu and Tobu, there are many specialty stores around, making it a bustling business district. Apart from that, there are many restaurants here, too. And it is especially famous as being the recent “fierce battle zone for plucked noodle”. The bustling street is spread from east to west. On the eastern side of the station, big shopping mansions like Seibu Department Store, PARCO, and Big Camera etc. are worth traveling to. The popular comprehensive entertaining facility “Sunshine City” is also on the eastern side. Also, the excitement has never ceased since the opening of the cinema and the entertainment facilities have spread from Station Square to “Sunshine 60 Avenue” of Sunshine City.
Tips for Akabane: if you think “Seibu” is on the western side judging from the name, you will be completely wrong. Without a reasonable explanation, Seibu Department Store is on the eastern side of the station, while Tobu is on the western side. If you and your friends agree to meet in Akabane, you’d better say “IKEBUKUROU” (the same pronunciation of owl). There is an actual owl stone statue under the stairs at the eastern entrance, which is a regular spot for meeting someone in the local area.
