 Hofu Tenmangu ShrineThis shrine is one of three main shrines in Japan, the other two being Kitano Tenmangu Shrine in Kyoto and Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine in Fukuoka. It was constructed in teh second year after the death of Sugawara Michizane. As the first God worshipped in Japan, Tenmangu Shrine increased the prosperity of Hofu City. The towering shrine Torii, the coiled large stone steps and the distinctive gateways are all amazing sights for visitors. The Main structure and the Shrine Temple were both reconstructed during the Showa era and are tangible historical sites. There are many precious cultural relics within such as the black Big Day Buddha on display within the History Museum. In addition, the plum flowers also draw a lot of visitors. In the early spring, 1100 plum flowers in reds and whites are all in bloom, the fragrance flowing over the area is wonderful and a great joy for the visitors. ■ Facility information

In the shopping center on the first floor, the open shopping environment attracts many costumers to the various clothing stores, commodity stores, restaurants, and other shops. Lined up on two sides of the Hutong-like lanes are the many restaurants with their delicious smells assaulting the costumers. Beside the complex is the JR Hofu City station, providing convenient transportation. And while there, why not visit the nearby Tenmangu Shrine? ■ Facility information
