Streetcar
The Hiroshima Electric Railway Company owns the No. Six rail line, 19 km long, and the No. One rail line, 16.1 km long, and can move over 160 thousand passengers per day. Streetcars in Hiroshima are the best in all of Japan and there is even a museum open to the public dedicated to the streetcar. Streetcars are also a very cheap way to travel, only 150 yen for an adult and 80 yen for a child. Throughout Japan, most cities that had streetcars with populations over 1 million people have been discontinued, with the populace relying on subways, but Hiroshima is different. This is partly due to the fact that Hiroshima is located at the delta estuary of the Otagawa river and underground excavation is inconvenient. Regardless of that fact however, the people demanded that the streetcars remain and the people were heard.
