Hakodate Ropeway

Mountain Hakodate, topping at 334m high, is the representative attraction of Hokkaido. Here you can either climb the mountain on foot or take the cable car and enjoy the scenery along the road. It only takes 3 minutes to reach the top for a large gondola that carries 125 people at a time. Goryōkaku

Goryōkaku was an important star fortress adopting many design elements from French architect Vauban. The last battle of the Boshin War took place here after Hijikata Toshizou passed away and his troops were attacked by the new Meiji government. Now it has been converted into a park, and has a museum reproduction of the true original buildings, as well as up to 107 meters of Goryōkaku tower. Regardless of the season, the amazing vista attracts many tourists every year. Every spring, more than 1,600 strains of Yoshino cherry blossoms bloom, adding color for the spring to Hakodate.
